Overview

Perch Island is a small, private island at the southern end of the Glen Island Group on Lake George. There is a single campsite on the island, and we found out that it is perfect for couples or families that crave privacy!

Our Guide to Perch Island Camping

Perch Island has long been one of our favorite single island camping sites on Lake George. There is a fabulous view to the south off a large boulder and plenty of privacy on the island itself. Perch Island is also close to Log Bay if you feel like being social.

There is a nice dock off Perch Island, which is great for docking your boat or for jumping and swimming! We recommend bringing a few floats along for a day of fun in the water. And don't forget the camera! The picturesque backdrop makes for a great photo op!

If you prefer sunny islands and private camping, you can have both on Perch Island. It has just the right amount of trees for privacy and a nice open spot in the main camping area that allows for plenty of sun. There is a nice path around this relatively small island that is perfect for a family of 5.

The campsite on Perch Island offers a nice fireplace for roasting marshmallows, hot dogs, etc. A peekhole through the trees offers a great view of the lake with a blue silhouette backdrop of the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. There is also a good sized tent platform, which is a great plus.

Perch island was a great little trip. We went in late July and the weather was incredible.

The island has a dock, two places for tents, a fire pit with grill(bring cleaning tools of your going to use), couple of trees for hammocking, and a picnic table.
Was a little loud with boats and parties going on but once night came it was pretty peaceful.

Bolton landing was the best spot to lunch from because it's directly across from the lake. We took a kayak and a small raft behind us and it was pretty rough once you were in open water. So look at weather before going because the swells can get pretty big. Morning is the best time to go out if the weather is nice.

The only thing that can be frustrating is that people don't realize people are camping there and think it's a free island to explore. We had to groups of people try to dock and look around and we had to tell them that we rented the island so try to make it apparent that you are there.
