Watercolor at an Intermediate Level
10 weeks: February 14 through April 18, 10-noon
Creative Jam, 6 State Route 149, Lake George, NY 12845
You know the basics now we dive deeper. Only 6 seats are available for this class. You will get direct and one-on-one instruction and guidance from Dawn Scannell, your watercolor instructor.
We will be working on monochromatic studies, master copies, color theory & composition.
Perfecting our basic techniques - mark making, glazing & water control.
We will also dabble in a bit of multi-media where the playground gets even spicer!
Prerequisite- Beginner Watercolor with Dawn Scannell, OR have watercolor experience*. *Watercolor experience means:
A basic understanding of watercolor techniques and is comfortable working with the medium, but is looking to deepen their skills and knowledge.
Understand Basic Techniques:
- Have experience with fundamental watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, glazing, and gradients.
- Be familiar with common brush types, color mixing, and creating washes.
Demonstrate Control Over the Medium:
- Have the ability to manage the flow and water content of the paint for more controlled effects, without it running uncontrollably or losing definition.
Work Independently:
- Be able to plan and execute their own compositions with guidance but not full instruction, applying a basic understanding of light, shadow, and perspective.
Experiment with Layers and Details:
- Have some experience layering multiple washes and adding finer details or texture to their paintings.
Understand Color Theory:
- Be comfortable mixing colors and understanding basic color theory (e.g., complementary colors, color temperature) and how it applies to their work.
Explore More Complex Subjects:
- Be ready to move beyond simple shapes and objects, and attempt more complex subjects like landscapes, still lifes, or portraits, with some guidance and practice.
