2024 Heroes of Hospitality: Dennis Dickinson
August 7, 1946 - April 3, 2024 | Surveyor, Public Servant
Dennis Dickinson campaigned for the office of Lake George Town Supervisor in 2011 on a platform of generating new tourism dollars. But when aquatic invasive species threatened the lake’s ecosystem, he proposed closing the lake to all but local boats, regardless of the impact to the tourism economy.
Dennis and his wife, Ande, grew up on the lake and were sensitive to changes to it. His leadership led to a mandatory boat inspection program for boats trailered from other waterbodies.
Assemblyman Matt Simpson said of Dennis, “his commitment to Lake George was unwavering. He understood the symbiotic relationship between environmental preservation and economic prosperity. He understood the lake was the greatest asset. You damage the lake, and you damage the community and economy alike.”
