2022 Heroes of Hospitality: Joanne Conley

Joanne Conley dedicated more than four decades to Warren County’s tourism industry, playing a vital role in shaping the region into a premier travel destination.

She began her career in 1981 as a tourism specialist with the Warren County Tourism Department, after graduating from Niagara University with a B.S. in Travel & Tourism. Over the years, she advanced through the department, eventually serving as Warren County’s Tourism Director for six and a half years before retiring in May 2022.

During her tenure, Conley was instrumental in branding the Lake George Area as the “Original Vacation” destination, reinforcing its appeal to travelers from around the country.

She oversaw the modernization of Warren County’s tourism marketing efforts, leading award-winning website development, television campaigns, and a growing social media presence. She also championed data-driven decision-making, ensuring that promotional efforts were both innovative and effective.

Beyond marketing, she worked to expand Warren County’s appeal as a year-round destination, playing a key role in bringing major winter attractions to the area. She also helped navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, collaborating with local businesses and government officials to ensure the county remained a safe and welcoming place for visitors.

Her passion for the region extended well beyond her professional responsibilities. She immersed herself in the local landscape, hiking Potash Mountain, cycling around Brant Lake, paddling Northwest Bay, and attending numerous community events. This firsthand experience strengthened her ability to showcase the area’s unique attractions, outdoor adventures, and small businesses to visitors.

Joanne's leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on Warren County’s tourism industry, helping to shape its identity and growth. Through her efforts, Lake George continues to thrive as an iconic vacation destination.
