New Year's Resolutions in Lake George & How to Keep Them

It's New Year's resolutions - Lake George style! Check out our top tips on how to hone in on your goals in the Lake George region this year. We recommend making resolutions hyper specific to increase the chances of keeping them, and we've added a tip in for each resolution below to achieve this.

1) Stay Active: Ski, Skate, or Snowshoe in Lake George

Exercise outdoors in our own winter wonderland! Hit the slopes at nearby West Mountain or Gore Mountain for great skiing or snowboarding. For something a little more low key that will still keep you moving, check out trails great for snowshoeing at the Lake George Rec Center, Gurney Lane Recreation Center, or other local spots.

Make the goal specific: "Exercise more" is vague. "I will walk, ski, or engage in physical activity for 30 minutes a day, 4 days a week," is specific.

2) Take in the Fresh Air: Explore Lake George's Trails

Many Adirondackers make a goal of hiking all 46 High Peaks - and that is great! If you'd like to add more hiking into the New Year, but want to stay closer to the southern Adirondack region around Lake George, no worries.

Prospect Mountain, The Pinnacle, or the Berry Pond Preserve (pictured above) are a few new hikes you might try out this year in the region.

Make the goal specific: "Hike more" is vague. "I will hike every other weekend with an aim to hit up at least 12 new hiking spots this year," is specific. See how that's a two-part resolution, combining both hiking a certain amount of time, and trying new hikes? Stick to one or two reasonable goals for your resolution - but no more.

3) Treat Yourself Without Breaking the Budget

For when you're looking to save money, check out:

Make the goal specific: Set a budget for yourself on a weekly or monthly basis on how much your allowed to spend on say, going out to dinner.

4) Try Something New: Winter Events & Festivals

Make this the year you step outside of your comfort zone! Lake George has unique winter events to keep you entertained past the holidays, including:

Take your resolution a step further by participating in some of the competitions in the Lake George Winter Carnival, like the skillet toss!

Make the goal specific: "Try something new," is super vague. Specify what you'd like to do - try ice skating for the first time? Enter a competition at a carnival or festival? Hone in on how you're going to branch out this year, and then write the goal down to keep it top of mind!

5) Prioritize Self Care at a Spa or Resort

If your resolution is to focus on some you time, Lake George is a great place to recharge. Book a relaxing day at the Sagamore Resort's spa (they have a new Salt & Sound Lounge, too!) or Spa Studio Adirondacks to refresh and recharge. There are also many spas in nearby Saratoga.

Make the goal specific: How often are you engaging in this self care? Plan to treat yourself once a month, or whatever is realistic for you.

6) Get Organized: Plan Your 2025 Adventures Early

Be proactive with your Lake George plans! As you're saving money taking advantage of lodging specials, go ahead and plan out your summer vacation now. Solidify travel plans so you'll have something to look forward to, get it on the calendar, and then sit back and prepare for a stress-free time knowing it's all planned out. Check out summer itineraries to get ideas.

Make the goal specific: "Get organized," is of course, too vague. If you feel like you're rushing from one week to the next, trying to keep your head above water, make a resolution like, "I will look over my Google calendar every Sunday evening to get ready for what's coming up, and firm up any appointments."

7) Spend Quality Time With Family & Friends

Especially if you have children, it can be tough to carve out time for friends, or even family members who are not a part of your core family you live with. Fortunately, spending more time with loved ones is an easy resolution to keep in Lake George with our many lodging options! Rent a cozy cabin or lakeside lodge for a weekend of winter or summer fun, game nights, and fireside chats. Camping is also available!

Make the goal specific: Say you're going to meet up with friends for an overnight or weekend getaway twice a year, or whatever would be reasonable and realistic for you.

8) Support Local: Shop, Eat & Explore Lake George

Maybe the holiday season has got you remembering how it's all too easy to order gifts and things we need online through Amazon. If you wished you'd kept the Christmas shopping more local, make a point to in the New Year - and not just shopping, but dining and finding things to do locally as well. Is this the year you're give ziplining or axe throwing a try?

Make the goal specific: Maybe you're going to only buy birthday and holiday gifts locally this year (many do offer an ordering online option, if you love that convenience!). Or maybe you pick one new business a month to try out or support in some way.

Good luck, and happy 2025!
