Lake Luzerne: A Great Day Trip From Lake George NY

Located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Luzerne is an ideal destination for any traveler looking for a little peace and quiet, with a little bit of good-ol' fashioned action thrown in the mix. Known as the "Gateway to the Adirondacks," Lake Luzerne is positioned close to Saratoga Springs and Lake George, and is an easy getaway for travelers.

Lake Luzerne also features a great array of local businesses and attractions that cater to visitors and locals alike.

A Brief History Of Lake Luzerne

Lake Luzerne's history pre-dates the French and Indian War when American Indians - including Mohawk, Abenaki and Iroquois - lived off the rich land. The American Indians called Lake Luzerne "Ti-o-sa-ron-da", which means "the meeting of the waters," because here, the Sacandaga Lake meets the Hudson River and forms a large bay.

Originally part of the Town of Queensbury, the area that would become the Town of Lake Luzerne was incorporated in April 1792. Lumbering was the town's first industry, but leather tanning, paper production, and manufacturing would play integral roles in its history, too.

While logging is still thriving in the area today, many of the older industries are no longer active in Lake Luzerne. What remains in the town, though, is a great array of opportunities for outdoor adventure, combined with a quaint, historic ambience.
