Bolton Gets a New Year-Round Diner with Classic Fare
Longtime Bolton Landing residents will notice a change in the middle of town. Bolton’s Beans, the seasonal railroad car diner, has been replaced by The Sunshine Diner, offering a nostalgic return to traditional diner food.
Courtney Sprague, the new owner, is a Bolton resident who has dreamt of opening a restaurant for years. After working in the medical field for 14 years, the pandemic prompted a career change and Sprague saw a need for a classic diner serving comfort food.
"Everybody wanted your hash, your eggs, your omelets, and a lot of places didn't carry your traditional diner food anymore," Sprague told The Post-Star.
The Sunshine Diner opened its doors on May 10th and has already been met with positive feedback. It will be open year-round, providing a place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious meal.

Adirondack Winery Launches New Patio and Cocktail Edition Wines
Adirondack Winery is excited to announce the opening of its new sidewalk café at the Lake George Tasting Room on Canada Street and the launch of its new “Cocktail Edition” wines, just in time for the summer season.
In a press release, owner Sasha Pardy shared, “Adding an outdoor seating area to our Lake George Tasting Room is something our customers have asked us to do for a very long time. Now our customers can enjoy our wine, our famous wine slushies, and the fresh air with a glimpse of the lake across the street.”
The seasonal patio, open May through October, features eco-friendly Polywood Adirondack Chairs and offers guests the chance to enjoy wine tastings, cheese and snack platters, and beverages like Extreme Heights Ciders and New York-made beers in biodegradable cups.
In addition, the first release in their new Cocktail Edition wine lineup is “Escape,” a Pina Colada-infused semi-sweet white wine with tropical flavors of pineapple, coconut, and banana. “This wine captures the essence of a summer vacation,” Pardy stated, noting the picturesque label featuring Lake George.

Hell's Kitchen Alum Opened Restaurant in Warrensburg
Season 21 Hell's Kitchen alum and Chestertown native Billy Trudsoe has opened a new restaurant: Lizzie Keays Kitchen & Cocktails in Warrensburg. The restaurant officially opened on June 19th.
Lizzie Keays marks a significant milestone for Trudsoe as his first venture where he is both the owner and chef. Trudsoe, who honed his culinary skills at SUNY Adirondack, brings 25 years of chef experience to the table.
His impressive resume includes stints at several Lake George area establishments such as The Algonquin, Iva and Audie’s Country Diner, Malone Golf Club, and The Garrison. Notably, Trudsoe showcased his talents on Hell’s Kitchen, where he earned a commendable 14th place finish.
There will be no dress code for Lizzie Keays, regardless of the upscale appeal. Guests can look forward to a diverse dinner menu that includes starters like diver scallops and tuna toastinis, four specialty salads, a Kobe burger, and savory entrees like beef coulette.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. You can make a reservation on the OpenTable website.

Herbicide Application Approved by APA to Tackle Invasive Species in Lake George
The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) has recently approved the Lake George Park Commission's (LGPC) permits to use the aquatic herbicide ProcellaCOR in Lake George. This decision has sparked significant debate and concern among environmental groups, residents, and officials.
Background
Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive plant species, has been a persistent issue in Lake George since it was first identified in 1985. Traditionally, the LGPC has managed the milfoil through hand-harvesting techniques.
However, the introduction of ProcellaCOR aims to offer a chemical solution to this problem.
Support for ProcellaCOR
Proponents of the herbicide, including the LGPC, argue that ProcellaCOR is an effective and safe management tool.
Dave Wick, the Executive Director of the LGPC, stated, “It would be absolutely negligent if we sat back and watched everyone else use a new, effective, and safe management tool just because an herbicide hadn’t been used on the lake in the past.”
In support of ProcellaCOR, the APA said, “The APA board’s decision was based on the best available science and guided by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s stringent pesticide regulations and approved registrants.”
Opposition to ProcellaCOR
Opponents to ProcellaCOR's use, including the Lake George Association (LGA) and the Lake George Waterkeeper, are staunchly against using chemicals in the lake. They argue that there isn’t enough scientific evidence to ensure the safety of ProcellaCOR, especially given that the Minnesota Department of Agriculture has found it contains PFOA, a known carcinogen.
Leigh Youngblood, Interim Executive Director of the LGA, expressed her disappointment: "The Queen of American Lakes has been free of intentionally introduced chemicals for 12,000 years. We will persist in our mission to protect Lake George.”
Former Governor George Pataki also voiced his opposition, urging Governor Kathy Hochul to intervene. “This would be a disastrous decision that can never be reversed,” Pataki wrote in an Op-Ed for the Albany Times Union.
The LGA, joined by local towns and property owners, has filed multiple lawsuits seeking to block the herbicide’s application, citing concerns about potential long-term impacts on the lake’s ecosystem and drinking water supply.
John E. Kelly III, Chair of the LGA, said, “We continue to pursue all available legal avenues to stop the needless application of a herbicide in Lake George by New York State despite overwhelming objections.”
What’s Next
Following the APA's decision last week, the LGA obtained a temporary restraining order on Saturday, June 22, to prevent the LGPC from using ProcellaCOR in Lake George until a new court hearing takes place.
Originally scheduled for Monday, June 24, the hearing has been rescheduled to Friday, June 28. During this hearing, arguments both for and against the use of ProcellaCOR will be presented, and a decision will be made shortly thereafter.
The use of ProcellaCOR in Lake George represents a contentious issue balancing invasive species management and environmental protection.

The Lemonade Parlor Opens at Million Dollar Beach
Lake George's Million Dollar Beach has some exciting changes in store for visitors this summer! The Lemonade Parlor, a local lemonade business, will be running the concession stand at the popular beach.
This is The Lemonade Parlor's second location inLake George; they have a physical location at 12 Beach Road as well. Their hours will be the same as the Million Dollar Beach hours, 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. each day. Closing day is typically around Labor Day.
The menu at Million Dollar Beach will feature burgers, wings, fries, chicken tenders, quesadillas, soft serve ice cream, and of course specialty lemonade flavors. Some of their top flavors include strawberry, blueberry, watermelon, raspberry, pineapple, and more. Check out their menu for the full selection!

New Lake George Wednesday Markets This Summer
Adirondack Pub & Brewery and High Peaks Distilling are launching the Lake George Wednesday Market in response to the cancellation of Shepard Park's usual farmers' markets.
The market will run every Wednesday from June 19 to August 2 at High Peaks Distilling's parking lot, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., including a happy hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will feature vendors, food trucks, entertainment, and pony rides.
Local producers can showcase their goods for free by filling out a Google form to secure a vendor space. Free parking is also available for all vendors and attendees.
